Don't Sabotage your Job Search

If you're in the habit of posting personal information and opinions on Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites, beware – these posts could haunt you during your next job search. Many employers routinely scour public postings looking for inappropriate content or evidence of illegal activities that would rule out candidates.

Some people post personal information, thinking only their friends will see it. But if you're not scrupulous about privacy settings, your information can easily be reposted for all to see.

And remember, deleting an email doesn't mean it no longer exists. Email providers and employers can keep archive copies for years. Plus, recipients won't necessarily delete the email and may in fact forward it to others.

Bottom line: If you're not comfortable sharing it with your grandmother, don't post it.
