Get the Most Out of Your Gift Cards

If you received gift cards this holiday season, follow these smart tips for getting all you can out of them in the months to come.

Transcript

You probably received at least a few gift cards during the holidays. Here are some tips to help get the most out of them:

* Use the cards quickly; the longer you wait, the more likely you'll forget or misplace them.

* Make sure you understand any expiration rules–some have fees if you don't use them within a specific timeframe.

* Write down account and toll-free numbers to report lost or stolen cards.

* Use up the entire account balance, or ask if a cash refund is available. You may be able to use multiple cards for a single purchase.\n

Bottom line: Gift cards are meant to be used–don't wait.
