Financial Teachable Moments
Discover how you can prepare your kids to deal with the financial world through small, daily lessons related to real life.
Transcript
Today's young adults are less prepared to deal with our complex financial world than in previous generations. As parents, we shouldn't rely on schools alone to educate our kids. Share your family's financial values around spending, saving and giving by looking for financial "teachable moments."
Next time your kids beg for expensive gadgets, work together to find ways they can contribute through their allowance or extra chores.
Get your kids involved in the monthly bills so they learn what housing, utilities and car payments really cost and how to budget accordingly. And don't be afraid to share your own past financial mistakes.
Bottom line: Kids need real-world financial skills and you're in the best position to teach them.
