Put the Brakes on Debt
Are you struggling with debt or beginning to fall behind on bills? Find out what to watch for and ways to reclaim your finances.
Transcript
Would a layoff or major medical bill bring your family to the brink of financial disaster? Before things get that dire, take a hard look at your finances.
Track every dime you earn and every cent you spend. If more is going out than coming in, you could be headed for a major fall. Having a balanced budget is vital.
If you're having difficulty paying bills, proactively call your creditors to try and work out a payment schedule. Don't wait until you're past due.
If you need professional guidance, search for a nonprofit credit counselor near you at the National Foundation for Credit Counseling's website, nfcc.org.
Bottom line: Break the cycle of debt by exploring your options sooner, rather than later.
