Tech Buying Tips
Hitting the electronics store for holiday gifts this season? Here are a few things to know.
Transcript
With the holidays coming up, you're probably getting bombarded with everyone's wish list for the latest high-tech toys. If technology's not your strong suit, there are many reputable websites that feature reviews of the latest products by technology professionals. My favorites include Consumer Reports and cnet.com. Also check out customer reviews on store websites. Remember: many products need additional accessories, so the base price may not tell the whole story. For example, computers need software, cell phones need calling plans, and cameras require batteries and cases. Also, if it's a big-ticket item, ask how much tech support costs after the initial warranty period expires.
Bottom line: A little research upfront can save you money–and grief.
