Head of Global Public Affairs
Joe Carberry leads Visa Inc.'s global public affairs group. He is responsible for protecting and enhancing the company’s reputation by managing external relations related to critical business issues and public policy. In addition, Carberry oversees the company’s efforts related to financial literacy and responsible spending.
Carberry was previously senior vice president of corporate relations for Visa USA. In this role, he was responsible for leading the company’s U.S. public affairs activities, including its ongoing communications efforts related to business issues and responsible spending. Prior to that role, Carberry managed all communications related to Visa USA’s products, marketing and technology initiatives. He also served as interim head of media and analyst relations and head of client communications.
Before joining Visa, Carberry was an account supervisor at Fleishman-Hillard. In this role, he consulted for various companies in the technology, financial services and entertainment industries. Prior to Fleishman-Hillard, he served as deputy press secretary to Mayor Susan Golding of San Diego. Before that, he managed public affairs and community relations programs at Stoorza, Ziegaus & Metzger, San Diego’s largest public relations firm. He also worked on the campaign staff for California Gov. Pete Wilson.
Carberry received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from San Diego State University, and a master’s degree in business administration from Pepperdine University.
