Package Tours
Package tours are a convenient way for travelers to visit overseas destinations. Holiday makers can avoid having to make separate arrangements for their air tickets, travel visas, hotels, transportation, sightseeing excursions and meals, and enjoy peace of mind as they let travel agents take care of them. Here are a few tips to get the most out of package tours.
- Buy from travel agents who are registered in Hong Kong. Use this online tool provided by the Travel Agents Registry to see a travel agent is registered.
- Save money by traveling at off-peak dates. There can be a big difference in peak and off-peak rates. For the lowest prices, avoid traveling in peak seasons such as school holidays.
- Check your receipt to make sure you have paid a 0.15% levy for your package. You must pay the levy in order to qualify for protection by the Travel Industry Compensation Fund Management Board.
- The Hong Kong government recommends residents making overseas trips to obtain travel insurance to gain protection for medical emergencies and accidents.
- Check which meals and sightseeing excursions are included in the price of your package.
- Ask your travel agent about the gratuity payments you are expected to make to tour guides and support staff. These payments are usually not included in your packages.
